There are many ways to tie a Bowline one of the biggest mistakes made by instructors is to “showboat” and show a student many ways to tie a Bowline with the end result being the student is totally confused and discouraged. The sort of joke I tell students about the Bowline is learn to tie it hanging upside down, blindfolded with someone pouring cold water down the back of your neck because if you sail long enough you will probably need to tie the Bowline in while in that position. You should practice tying all knots until you can tie them blindfolded. If a person only learns how to tie one boating knot the Bowline should be that knot. ![]() The Bowline is also called the King or Queen of knots as it is very flexible knot that can be used in place of almost any knot on a boat, granted sometimes a bit inelegantly. The Bowline can also be untied even after it has been heavily loaded. ![]() Common uses are, Jib and Genoa sheets, loops in the end of dock lines, fenders and lock lines. The Bowline is used any time you need a fixed loop in the end of a line that will stay the same size. I then got together with a friend who took these pictures while I tied the Bowline left handed and then I made a one page handout (see below for a printer friendly version) that I started giving out in class, that handout has been expanded below to help the about 10% of the population that I have been told are left handed. But as with all teaching, doing something in class and being able to do the same task once a student got home were two very different things. I then taught myself to tie the Bowline with my left hand and this helped as I could now demonstrate how to tie a Bowline with my left hand and letting them look over my left shoulder did help quite a bit. Tying a Bowline is an essential boating skill but one that seems to stump many boaters, then when you add being left handed to the mix things can get really confusing so I made this guide to help left handed people tie a Bowline.Ī few years ago while helping to teach knot tying at the Mountaineers Sailing Crew Class I noticed that many of the students were left handed and really struggling with tying the Bowline. ![]() ![]() ![]() We can think this Carsten Wutzke bloke commenting on YouTube here, thanks guy! The first option to get rid of recurrence would be to set the repeat field to the “Does not repeat” optionĪnother option you have is to delete the task. Since marking recurring tasks completed just completes the upcoming instance, how do we then stop them completely? There are two options available: Option 1: Stop the recurrence I marked it completed, and it left the task on the Board, and changed the due date to the following Friday, December 9, 2022. For example, I had a recurring task set for every Friday, and the next Friday date was December 2, 2022. If you click on a recurring task and mark it completed, it will only complete the next upcoming instance, not the task series. If you opt for the Schedule View, which shows the tasks overlayed over the monthly calendar, it will show all the tasks instances. For example, you need everyone on the team to submit project updates/Project Status Reports to the Project Manager every Friday and want to make sure this task appears in a Project plan and is visible to all the project members. However, sometimes you have tasks that need to be recurring (occur regularly). Up until now, we could only create one-time tasks. One feature we recently got was the ability to create recurring tasks in Planner. So any new capabilities/new features within Planner are welcome and celebrated. Planner was not necessarily spoiled with a flood of new features like we are accustomed to with Teams, SharePoint, and other applications. This topic is dear to my heart as I am a huge fan of Planner Application. ![]() ![]() ![]() I have plenty of spare time to compose something, so it’s not time constraints, it is simply something that just won’t fit in. I wanted to compose something that could capture the intentions of the scene, and after looking for inspiration in games like Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture and Gone Home, both which I feel this environment would be a good fit inside, I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes, the best music is no music at all. Now, I know that music is not the focus of this, after all, I’m doing this as an Environment Artist, not a Composer. I started in music, I love music, nothing is as important as music for me, and yet, I can’t compose anything that fits the scene. However, I’ve had to make some tough decisions this week… So with that, I’ve been polishing assets, redoing some materials and textures (still wishing my texturing was better), and getting ready to package the game. I have to thank the tutors, ALL of them, for being so supportive and allowing me to develop my creativity and skills with so much freedom. I’ve pulled off something I am very happy with, and it’s something I never would’ve achieved if it wasn’t for how much I learned in the past year, as evidenced by my BA6. My modeling, UV’s, lighting, presentation, I believe all those skills are very good, they’ve developed in the past 3 months, of course, but still, the biggest change has been on texturing. This is where I feel like the most development has happened. But assets tend to be of a much lower quality. My tileable textures are nice, the ones that I spend a week tweaking in Substance Designer. From when we were doing textures in the old school way with Lothar, to when I learned to bake and everything was just…dreadful…Now, I don’t know. But of course, I was bound to run into problems, though they weren’t many, they did occur. All these methods of modeling and texturing were tried and tested during BA3a, so it was wonderful to just sit down and get on with the work. I much prefer to use more geometry, hopefully this will become far more widely used than it is now. I’ve used a combination of baking normal maps and the weighed normals method from games like Star Citizen and Alien: Isolation. Modeling the environment was a long but not particularly difficult task. There have been some troubles, but nothing that BA3a didn’t prepare me for. ![]() I’ve really come into my own as a 3D artist.
